About Blinds

Blinds are often considered as an alternative to, or an accompaniment to, curtains and make very neat and efficient window coverings. Some offer blackout levels of darkness while others tend to be cosmetic more than superbly practical, yet all different types –and there are many – can be very attractive and extremely useful in the right circumstances.

When we set out to create a review of blinds we considered the different types available and came to the conclusion that we should split the review into three sections – roller blinds, roman blinds and venetian blinds, the three most popular and enduring forms of window blind that you can buy. The reason these three types have stayed with us is simple – each is a simple and stylish, yet practical and affordable design that needs no improvement.

In roller blinds we have perhaps the most simplistic of all; generally taking the form of a roll of fabric around a circular tube, this lowered and raised by way of simple pulleys, this is a very versatile and attractive type of blind that can be found in many different colours, sizes and styles and one that will continue to endure for a long time to come. From patterns to blackout blinds, and through outdoor versions to made to measure styles we have included a broad cross section of roller blinds for your information.

Roman blinds are a very attractive proposition and, as we found, are particularly effective and attractive in wood. Bamboo, with its very attractive and stylish looks and light weight, is one o the most impressive of all and lends itself well to many different makes of roman blind, while other woods are used to great effect and some are even painted to create a variety of available colours. This is a type of blind that has many fans, and it is easy to see why.

Perhaps the most popular of all types of window blinds, venetian blinds are favoured for their clever and very simply opening and shutting ability. Without the need to raise the blind – although this can be done if required – the venetian blind can be manipulated to let in as much, or as little, light as required and is also an excellent way of adding privacy to a room. Particularly attractive in many shades of wood and in coloured aluminium, venetian blinds are a cost effective and attractive method of shrouding a window or glass door.
